Kapurthala is situated in the State of Punjab and the city is the administrative center for the District of Kapurthala. The geographical coordinates of the place are 31.38°N 75.38°E and it lies very close to the city of Jalandhar.  It lies in the Indian Standard Time zone.

Brief History of Kapurthala

Kapurthala had a prominent place of being the capital city of the princely state of Kapurthala State during the times of the British. Kapurthala is famous for its palaces and gardens. The history of Kapurthala can be divided into Kapurthala Prnicipalty and Kapurthala Town. The principality was ruled by Ahluwalia Dynasty and had a huge area of 1,690 square km. The Kapurthala town was founded by Rana Kapur who was a Bhatti Rajput. His presence can be traced back to the 11th century. But the present family of Patiala rulers belongs to Nawab Jassa Singh Ahluwalia’s family. The Ahluwalias had great impact in regions near the Sutlej and Bari Doab.

He spent 14 years of his life in the town and proceeded to spread the word of Sikkhism to other parts of the country after the Enlightenment. Kapurthala is a very important religious place because of this event.
